📺 ~ The Bear (Season 4)

rating: 10/10

dare i say... the best season so far... idk if this is recency bias speaking but i surely believe so. carmy changed so much this season. i'm proud of him for breaking his cycles. but also bro, don't run away from the restaurant... i understand why he would want to do that, but i think he's doing it for the wrong reason because he THINKS he might be doing something good but he's running away AGAIN.

i've never been a claire hater before but i feel like after s3 she lost her narrative purpose for existing in this story. WHY is she still here?? ok i understand if carmy ran to her house to apologise to her and i liked that he finally owned up to the shitty shi he unintentionally said to her. i could totally get behind that part. but she just kept coming BACK again AND AGAIN. LIKE WHY TF WAS SHE AT TIFF'S WEDDING??? at that point i really felt like the writers were shoe-horning the claire narrative into the plot. carmy does NOT need her anymore. sydney tho? holy shit. SYDNEY. ayo NEEDS to get her emmy for this season coz she went CRAZY with the acting. sydcarmy this season? twas going so fuxxin hard. chris storer mad asf if he ain't trying to intentionally put carmy and syd together coz HOW do you write such a nuanced subtexual romance without meaning to? carmy literally confessed in the finale like bro said everything like a love confession. he was more genuine with her and knew exactly what he felt unlike with claire. like HE LITERALLY ADMITTED EVERYTHING STARTED GOING RIGHT IN HIS LIFE THE DAY SHE WALKED INTO HIS RESTAURANT AND THE WAY SYD SCREAMED "YOU'RE MY PARTNER!!" AND AND AND "I KNOW I DON'T NEED YOU TO BE HERE (BUT I WANT YOU HERE)" THE SUBTEXT THE SUBTEXT READ BETWEEN THE LINES PLEASE OHMYGOD.

okay what else... i LOVED the gang from Ever and luca joining the restaurant. jessica's chemistry with richie is so crazy, i knew they had something going on. richie deserves to be happy with her. there's a lot more stuff in general that i liked—donna's apology which made me bawl, the CRAZY season finale which was just ONE WHOLE SCENE THROUGHOUT, the wedding episode, sydney's episode w the cold opening that parelled carmy's in s1 etc. this was just peak bro. i'll stop the review here.

🎬 ~ KPop Demon Hunters

rating: 9/10

just wrote a pissy comment on abby's letterboxd review coz the AUDACITY to give this PEAK film TWO STARS OUT OF FIVE and say "it could've been better"!!! TSK TSK TSK. this was a GOOD movie okay? fuxx you abby.

i had sm fun watching this. the songs slap so hard. i'm putting them in my playlist. soda pop is catchy fr. for a second there i thought it was sung by TREASURE lol. JINU AND RUMI ARE SO CUTE FJDJSKSK. HOW TF DID HE END UP DYING. i need a sequel where he turns out to be alive or the spectre of his soul haunts rumi coz their chemistry was so good y'all. you can't even call it strictly romantic but it was THEREEEE. abby baby i'm mad at you again. look at me. i'm pouting. i'm crossing my arms. how dare you wife? how dare you rate this badly. i admit i laughed when i saw the title of this film in the trailer that was recommended to me on my homepage on youtube. i thought this was going to be a stupid film—in a way where i'm laughing AT it instead of with it. it's such a goofy title. it's like they published the working title lmfao. y'all couldn't have been a lil more creative in the writers room? did it have to be so in your face? n e ways. yee. cute movie.

📺 ~ Overcompensating (Season 1)

rating: 10/10

anyone who hates this show can suck my dick. PUT SOME RESPECT ON THIS SHOW IT'S SO FUXXIN GOOD. I LOVE LOVE LOVE COLLEGE COMEDIES THAT DON'T OVERCOMPENSATE (HA!) BY USING MODERN INTERNET SLANG TO "STAY WITH THE TIMES" AND "RELATE TO THE AUDIENCE" BUT ARE JUST PERFECT ENOUGH IN WALKING THAT THIN LINE THAT THEY END UP BEING GENUINELY FUNNY AND CREATIVE AND WITH THE TIMES WITHOUT BEING OBSOLETE. benito skinner i will kiss u on the mouth (no homo) coz u COOKED!!!!

that ending was crazy btw ohmygod. u can never tell who is going to end up with who, but the characters are so well-written and nuanced as well and i love it bro. the pacing is great btw. there's never a dull moment in this show. it's. just. perfect. ohmygodohmygodohmygod i LOVE this bro. good shit bro. amazon prime is cooking w these peak shows. i need to rope more people into watching this.

🎬 ~ How to Train Your Dragon

 rating: 10/10

they don't make movies like this anymore!!! this was magnificent. the details, the camerawork, the organic way in which hiccup and toothless' bond develops through multiple interactions? modern day animations could never. dreamworks was on a generational run in the 2000s and 2010s. i am looking forward to seeing how the live action lives up to this masterpiece. i heard it is just as great.

📖 ~ The Taking of Jake Livingston

rating: 3.5/5

ykw, i appreciate this novel after the slop i've been reading these past few months. it was a nice change of pace. modern YA doesn't usually have stories that aren't catering to the rampant trope-ified consumer tastes trending on social media rn. so as soon as i caught wind that one of the pov's was of a school shooter, i was SAT and locked in. finished 45% in one night. i like novels that make u think instead of spoonfeeding everything to u. i liked that the characters in this were layered and the pacing was decent as well. sawyer is such an interesting character coz he does have sociopathic qualities that could've otherwise been managed if he weren't traumatised so wholly by his pedo uncle so while i feel bad for him i can't excuse him shooting up his school, even if some of the ppl he killed were actually shitty. jake wasn't too strong a protagonist but i understood his struggles. the horror aspects in this novel were good. it was my first time reading anything in this genre, and some of the jumpscares were so good haha—like the shower one and getting dragged off the bed. so thank you Ryan Douglass for delivering a good book in this world of slop. i love u my guy.

🎬 ~ Kill Your Darlings

rating: 9/10

a movie that graduated from Donna Tartt's school of aesthetics? sign me up. the only thing i knew about this movie was that it was about the beat poets' generation and probably gay, but i did not anticipate just how extraordinarily gay it was. daniel radcliffe KISSES dane dehaan with TONGUE and has sex with a man and gets blowed while having intense homo eye contact with his blonde situationship. i was in love with the aesthetics and pretentiousness of quoting poets and deliberately rejecting poetry conventions to create something wild and new. this movie also made me want to chainsmoke cigarettes while writing novels by hand. i ended up writing a random vignette in my journal due to the mindspace this movie put me in. man i love being a writer. i was also low-key down bad for william burroughs' character in this. he's so henry winter coded. allen reminds me of richard and lucien was definitely like bunny. this movie is fr a spiritual successor to The Secret History. it reads like Saltburn's distant cousin.

📖 ~ And They Were Roommates

rating: 2/5

trash. i was so excited for this book yet it lacked a soul and was born in the same trenches as where the trope-ifiction of stories runs rampant and ideas are turned into poorly developed husks of novels instead of a carefully nurtured world of life. i actually am quite horribly disappointed coz i was looking forward to reading this story. but everything was so... eh. i finished it within 24 hours coz it was at least consumable trash and not completely dry and crumbling matter. the romance was almost non-existent. this is probably a 1.75 but i gave it that extra .25 due to pity. i actually liked the trans rep here coz it wasn't shoe-horned in (*cough* unlike Most Ardently *cough*). jasper wasn't a well-developed love interest. he just felt like a tumblr post. there was sm opportunity to develop his lore w p.m but y'all fumbled gang. i'm sad.

📖 ~ We Are Okay

rating: 3.75/5 life is so interesting. this was one of the first books i came by in 2020 which somehow stayed in my memory and by tbr. the o...
