📖 ~ The Pairing

rating: 5/5

i love whatever stars aligned that one day in september that possessed me to take the uni shuttle to the nearest Barnes & Noble and buy this book for twenty dollars. literally floated through so many shelves looking for it before finally finding it. i was so nervous to read it because what if i wasted my money? but then, literally less than 20 pages in, i had a feeling. i had the strongest gut feeling in the world that i was going to LOVE this book in the utmost meaning of the word... AND I DID. every page i read just made fall deeper and deeper. THIS. THIS BOOK. IS MY FLAVOUR OF LOVE. it's so rare to get an all-time favorite like this. i fear casey mcquiston topped rw&rb, maybe not in terms of sheer nostalgia altogether because they are on the same level on that front, but in general. fuck i need a cigarette because the depiction of love in this book and the love that theo and kit share is so special and i wanted it so bad and the relationship they had oh my god. i was blushing and having fluster-attacks reading this because aside from the sheer romance, this is the sexiest fucking book i've ever read in my life. no booktok porn can top the sensuality of the scenes in this book, like you got ME, a veteran of all things smut, BLUSHING AND SMILING LIKE A FOOL. also just the premise of competing with each other to see who sleeps with the most amount of people to deal with ur own sexual frustrations with each other is so funny but it had such a large margin of error where it could've gone wrong (i am scared of booktok tropey writing ruining everything that interests me) but holy shit this was executed so well here because it was just a part of the larger story tied into their character arcs and didn't feel like it was the only interesting part of this book ykwim? this was beautifully paced and structured. the third act conflict in books usually tend to be ass coz it feels like it's just there for the sake of drama BUT NOOOO CASEYY MCQUISTON NEVER FAILS ME coz here the third act "i love you more than anything but i can't do this" KILLED ME COZ IT IS BUILT ON THE CHARACTERS' INSECURITIES AND ITS SO NATURAL UGHHHHHH. and the Birth of Venus and statue of David metaphor dawg i died ten times over—that might be one of the best things modern literature will ever produce. i could go on forever about this book bro. this is an instance of a story where i feel like the author spied on my thoughts and wrote it specifically for me.

📺 ~ Daredevil (Season 2)

rating: 8.75/10

the hand b-plot? wack. frank castle a-plot? GOATED. karen page marry me. foggy deserved better. matthew needs to be slapped with sense. he was weirder in this season. foggy got shot and this mf left him and went off to elektra instead of finding who SHOT his BEST FRIEND. karen and him were cute too but i was irked that he never explained the situation with elektra to her and just gave up. matthew was at his worst in this season. me did not likey. frank castle tho… me like. me like very much. like. i wanted that man more than matthew murdock. he’s so cute. mass murderer yes but cute. did u look at his eyes? jon bernthal is great. i don’t have much more to say except that frank realising matt’s identity real time is the greatest fifteen seconds of superhero television ever made.

📺 ~ Daredevil (Season 1)

rating: 9.25/10

took me a couple years and a few months to finally sit through all of it and i’m glad coz it’s so good. i can acknowledge that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, hell it was barely mine, but it knows what it is and does a heck of a job in selling itself. i love the gritty groundedness of this story. it makes no false promises and delivers on exactly what it intends to. wilson fisk is a great antagonist in that depending on whose lens u look through, he doesn’t present himself as such. there were moments that genuinely moved me with his character, like his relationship with wesley and vanessa. how can someone so inhuman also be so deeply human? it’s crazy good writing. and then there’s ofc the star of the show, matthew murdock. he’s great. we been knew he was goated. he carries this show so hard. his charisma, character and writing are unmatched. charlie cox just blows his performance out of the water. and the supporting cast is so colorful too. and the story is so tight as well. the airtight nature of it reminds me of arcane’s writing. anyways, can’t wait for season two.

📺 ~ Adolescence

rating: 8.75/10

episode three was so peak i can’t even begin to describe just how genius it was. those emmys were so deserved. i thought maybe the story would end up going a little deeper than it did so that’s on me for having too high expectations but otherwise this was masterful. it’s crazy how every episode was one take and traveled between so many sets. i commend the effort that goes into that direction and rehearsal. sm discipline must’ve been required. but other than that yea this was good social commentary on today’s youth.

🎬 ~ The Fantastic 4: First Steps

 rating: 7/10

not... as bad as i expected it to be. it had substance and heart, which i admire—especially from a marvel project of all things. galactus' design in the scene where they meet him was phenomenal, you could really feel his scale and the foreboding feeling of them messing with something out of their depth. another standout was the scene where susan gives birth to franklin while they're being chased by the silver surfer; that was beautiful and terrifying. it's really interesting how franklin is an omega level mutant though. i don't think there's been any on that level canonically. like wdym he can literally ALTER REALITY? das crazy. the entire thing with silver surfer and johnny was cute too btw. i really enjoyed ebon moss-bachrach's performance as The Thing. perfect casting tbh, and i liked seeing him outside of The Bear. are we sort of sick of pedro pascal? mayhaps. i think these man needs roles that don't have any romances tied his character because he's PHENOMENAL in The Last of Us but i don't think i've really been into any of his other projects coz they just don't hit the same. vanessa kirby was the goat. safe to say she CARRIED this movie. excited to see these guys again in Avengers: Doomsday.
