📺 ~ Severance (Season 1)

 rating: 9/10

Ben Stiller cooked so hard with this one. redefined storytelling, i tell you. it's hard to come by such realised media that isn't afraid to display nuanced social commentary. i was intrigued , and immediately started watching the show, when i saw its tagline for the first time — "there's more to work than life." i feel like in this current age of die-hard capitalism and the direction our time is going in, this type of story was really necessary. now, i watched this a while ago, so i don't remember much of the nitty gritty of the plot, but let me list some things i loved: DYLAN G. i loved this guy and he's my favorite character, hands down. the whole plotline with mark's wife being ms. casey was so crazy, especially with the reveal at the end. speaking of which, the finale of this season was a masterclass in television like oh my gOD. i haven't seen such a tight direction and script since The Bear. helly's outie being the villain also creates such an interesting dynamic to explore in the rest of the plot because while helly is a good person and feisty, her other self who is also basically her is evil asf lol. she's her own worst enemy. and it's also interesting how mark is an everyman sorta character yk he's just a guy yet he's the protagonist of the show and i'm interested in his development. lastly, the old man yaoi was not expected but we vibed with it even tho i was doomed. okay i'm done with the review. oh yea also, the production design of this show is crazy good.

🎬 ~ Superman

rating: 10/10

JAMES GUNN. YOU'VE DONE IT. YOU'VE CONVERTED ME, A DIEHARD BATFAM AND INJUSTICE ENTHUSIAST, TO BEING A SUPERMAN SUPPORTER. OHMYGOD. best fourteen dollars i've ever spent for a theatre experience. i was LOCKED IN (i wanted to pee so bad for the last half of the movie). genuinely great. i won't accept any criticisms for this movie even if i understand some (my uber driver had some thoughts, but then again, he was a Man of Steel fan). i kid u not i almost cried when the kid raised superman's symbol in pseudo-palestine. WHICH, by the way, was such a good move on james gunn's part to be pro-palestine in this way, especially when Warner Bros is probably a zionist establishment (like all capitalist businesses). david corenswet's superman was so good. like he IS Clark Kent. and THE PERSONALITY? THE SASSINESS?? NO MORE VANILLA UNSALTED BUTTER WHITE BREAD AHH SUPERMAN. and man that chemistry with lois (massive bisexual panic when those two were kissing in that kitchen that was so hot). I WANT JIMMY TOO. jimmy olsen somehow managed to catch my fancy. i have a type and it's him. nicholas hoult's lex luthor was EVIL bro like not even cartoon evil like straight up EVIL. i love when antagonists are actual VILLAINS. bro is a kendrick level hater, and honestly, respect (i wouldn't go near him with a 1000ft pole tho). krypto was such a cutie btw. SUPERGIRL CAMEO AHHHHHH i wanna see what a lore-accurate supergirl is like. mama and papa kent were so nice. i wanna live with them. THE SCORE. HOLY FUCK. BEST FUCKING SHIT EVER. WHO MADE THAT SCORE?? JOHN WILLIAMS? BOY THAT MUSIC IS SICK. ITS LITERALLY THE SOUND OF HOPE. HELL YEAH. HEARING THAT SHIT AS THE CREDITS ROLLED WAS AN EXPERIENCE. idk what else i've got to say that was pretty much it. i just love this movie man.

📖 ~ Yellowface

 rating: 3.25/5

this was so fucking funny. it was my first rebecca kuang book because i'm terrified of reading The Poppy War, but i really liked reading this. i do think miss kuang wrote this as an insult to some white person that affronted her in the beginning of her career and i love her for it. the protagonist's internalised racism, insecurities and delusions were so hilarious to read. like damn, this girl was having a panic attack inside a normal chinese restaurant, which is CRAZY. also she had sm sexual tension with athena istg. the homoeroticism of her obsession with athena was baffling. like girl, did you wanna be her or be with her? at some point in the novel i really thought they were gonna end up kissing. even though i enjoyed this book, i guess it was just a fun time to me because i didn't really wanna rate it very high. it did inspire me to write my own stuff tho, so kudos for that.

🎬 ~ Before the Fall

 rating: 8.25/10

ALLLLBREECCCHTTTTTTTTTTT NOOOOOOOOOOOO. german doomed yaoi. german neil and todd. this was SAD!!! these poor boys. and the queer coding haha. their chemistry was crazy. i loved this movie. i should watch this with abby. i very much enjoyed this story. there's just something about war narratives and innocent naive kids thrust into it that hits hard. i wish albrecht and frederick got to run away together but alas that's not how life works innit. i would like to rewatch this someday. i was rooting sm for albrecht and frederick in every scene they were together. and listen you can totally argue that they were just good friends but man the way their eyes gaze and each other AND THE BATHROOM SCENE I THOUGHT THEY WAS GONNA KISS BUT THIS WAS 2004 SO THEY DIDN'T UGH. maybe i'll just read more fanfiction of them because there's a decent amount of it on ao3 haha.
