📺 ~ Bridgerton (Season 4)

rating: 7.25/10

i just finished this an hour ago and am trying to figure out what i feel for it. i think it's, number two(?) in my overall bridgerton ranking so far, because we haven't beat kanthony's exquisite enemies to lovers tension yet. i was sort of... underwhelmed by the second half of the season? or just whelmed, i guess. i think it was definitely a mistake on netflix's part to premiere the season in two chunks; i know it's supposed to generate hype but it loses its shine along the way. i was very into the visual language with the stairs signifying class divide; it's simple but so effective. francesca's husband died this season but i don't know if the next season will be hers or eloise's. i kind of hated michaela's personality at first: she was so entitled and it was grating rather than seeming cool. glad she mellowed out a bit after being francesca's friend. their dynamic very much gives friends only rather than future lovers so there's development to be had there as well. anthony was kind of an a-hole to benedict BUT BABY EDMUND WAS SO ADORABLE OHMYGOD THE MOST PRECIOUS CHILD ON EARTH AHHHH. kate was STUNNING as usual. i love how costume design incorporates indian sartorial elements into her outfits. i was kind of thirsting for francesca this season lol she is gorgeous. and penelope as well for the matter. i thought araminta gun deserved worse tbh she got away too easily. should've been imprisoned for essentially putting sophie through slave labour for seven years. posy was great btw we love post she's so sunshine and pure. i like that this season showcased the household staff's worldview. i know it was a given considering how sophie is a mad but it offered such a refreshing view on how things are done behind the scenes in these noble households. FOOTMAN JOHN WAS SO HOT THE RIZZ ON THAT MAN IM GLAD HE GETS TO BE WITH HAZEL. i'm glad we got gregory in this season because i was kinda bummed out that he'd not be onscreen coz he's at eton BUT HE CAME HOME!! can already see his hopeless romantic personality in this season AND I WISH SO BAD THAT THEY GIVE HIM A QUEER STORYLINE TOO SHONDA RHIMES LOOK ME IN THE EYE IM BEGGING YOU TO MAKE GREGORY'S LOVE INTEREST A MAN AS WELL IT WILL BE THE MOST BOMBASTIC SENDOFF TO THIS SERIES PLEASE HEAR ME OUT ON THIS IM MANIFESTING SO HARD RN. not much more to say tbh i'll add stuff in later if i remember.

📺 ~ A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms (Season 1)

rating: 9/10

or shall i say nine, haha? i saw one (1) aerion targaryen edit and was immediately seized so thoroughly by his beauty that i felt i HAD to watch this show to see more of him. i do not regret it one bit and it also happens that the show is accessible to new viewers who are not intimately familiar with the world of westeros. i had only twenty chapters of context from the first book of asoiaf but i quite liked running with those crumbs and into ser dunk and egg's tale. it is beautifully paced and written. episode five was definitely the magnum opus of the season, and from what i hear, one of the top five episodes spanning all three shows of asoiaf at present. i definitely appreciated the more humorous approach of this story especially considering the fact that the story in general is known for its bleak grimdark nature. egg is an absolute treasure and so adorable. i'm really curious how his story pans out. the whispers i've heard of the tragedy at summerhall intrigue me so much, especially because i've seen it being compared to the red wedding (which i have deliberately avoided spoiling myself about as of now, but i know it's famed for its violence). baelor's death was such a tragedy—this world sure does love punishing good and rewarding bad. but the humor of this show UGH ITS SO FUNNY I LAUGHED AT SO MANY GAGS HAHA. there was this one in the finale where lyonel baratheon mentions leaving the tourney after the roast, which i assumed meant a feast, but then it cuts straight to baelor's cremation and it's so silent BAHAHAHAHAHAHA IT WAS HILARIOUS I LOVE DARK HUMOR. i've heard people saying this show is perhaps better because grrm was closely involved in the writing and it is visible here. he's certainly brought his vision to life. anyways, valarr aerion and daeron can ABSOLUTELY GET IT DEAR WOW THEY'RE GORGEOUS (aerion is an abhorrent personality sure but far be it from me to not admire a gorgeous specimen).

🎬 ~ Marty Supreme

rating: 10/10

give timothee chalamet his oscar NOW because the fucker made me cry in the last scene. YES I CRIED WATCHING MARTY FUCKING SUPREME WHAT ABOUT IT. i was going to lower the rating to 9.5 solely for how uncomfortable the spanking scene made me because i hate humiliation of all kinds in media. it makes me want to crawl out of my skin. and i did not need to see timothee chalamet's butt in hd either. anyways, HOLY MOLY. i was sitting ramrod straight on the edge of my seat QUITE LITERALLY during the climactic match between endo and marty and MAN WAS IT ABSOLUTE VINDICATION WHEN MARTY WON OHMYGOD I AIN'T FELT THAT KEYED UP SINCE MY HAIKYUU DAYS. i think this movie is the cleanest example of a fichtean curve narrative that i can recall. shit just keeps getting worse and worse and worse and worse and our main character marty is emotionally stamped down within a bare inch of his life. like man, that 1hr 55min mark really made me want to kms coz being in marty shoes there—that was his lowest fucking point. it's why his match with endo hits so hard. he has no goddamn dignity left to lose except to prove to himself that all this bullshit was worth SOMETHING. that he IS what he believed and if he just proves that to HIMSELF, that's all he needs. he can live a lifetime knowing that he beat the rank fucking one player in the world in a fair match. so FUCK ram sethi and FUCK that fucker rockwell. those bitches ain't know SHIT. marty is THE shit. everyone can go suck their own dicks i'll defend marty mauser til i die.

🎬 ~ Avatar: The Way of Water

rating: 9/10

okay i kinda cried during neteyam's funeral scene. i knew he was gonna die but haha still got a lil sad. i surprisingly didn't feel the length of this movie even though it was over three hours long, which is crazy. i don't like the fact that quaritch is going to be the villain for the entire length of the series, but putting spider in between jake and him does create good moral conflict. tuk is absolutely adorable. she's so baby i wanna protect her. i actually didn't notice sigourney weaver's voice as much in kiri—she sounded like a teen girl with a deeper voice and i know other characters and real people who sound like that so no complaints there. her connection with eywa is interesting tho. payakan is so adorable, so what if everyone can't be gandhi? some of us gotta be bhagat singhs and that's exactly what payakan is and we love him for that. jake not a super great father, emotionally that is, but eh. he's trying. neytiri is a whole unit except that she hates spider's guts lmfao. the metkayina clan chief was cool asf. he has the chill dad energy but that one scene where he goes "SIT DOWN" has sm aura. he's the chief fr. kate winslet's character was so salty towards the sullys lol but then again she was pregnant and her bonded tulkan died so that was sad. enjoyed the movie tho. twas neat.

🎬 ~ Avatar

rating: 8.25/10

lookie me, finally watching the first avatar movie (rewatching technically but i don't remember jack shit from the first time) two months after watching the threequel with only wikipedia plots for context. safe to say, it really is a marvel that this was made in 2009. it has such striking visuals and worldbuilding. i love the commentary the narrative provides by drawing parellels to real life conflicts with native populations, but also the homage it provides to aborigine culture in it's depictions of their spirituality and connection with nature. the only person i hated more than quaritch was that white greed-ridden fucker parker. sigourney weaver was great in this—i kept feeling like i'd seen her before somewhere (even though i didn't know any project i've actually seen her in), and i saw her wikipedia just now and apparently SHE WAS IN DEFENDERS. SHE PLAYED THE EVIL HAND LADY HAHA. neytiri and jake's relationship was so hehehehehehe. i loved seeing their first meeting and development. "i don't want ninat" SHUT UPPPPPP. i was just about screaming every time jake's avatar form was on screen. don't have much to say tbh. i was close to falling asleep in the last act though so i lowered the rating. also make sort of turned into this gary stu-esque character by the end and wtf do u mean he united fifteen clans? that part was so rushed, and kind of doesn't make sense considering the clan from Way of The Water and the wild fire ones from Fire and Ash.

🎬 ~ The Secret Agent

rating: 6/10

i don't know why the movie is titled as that because the protagonist isn't even an agent. he's just an academic who pissed off a bigot piece of shit and suddenly has a hit ordered on him. i can see why the festival crowd would like this one. as you might know, i'm not experienced with festival cinema but i was still sat for this, even tho it was two hours and forty minutes long. wow. this movie sure takes its time in establishing the setup and experience. it's very slice of life. i particularly enjoyed the scene with the recorded conversation where armando is telling elza about how he met that racist fuckass italian while being part of uni faculty and the scene cuts to the flashbacks. the restaurant scene with fatima was lovely. i love fierce women speaking out against fuckass superiority complex mfs. but it also calls into question the circumstances surrounding fatima's death, whether she succumbed to natural causes or was murdered. the shootout sequence was so good because the entire movie is basically building up to that point. i love how tense it was. i don't know what exactly was the deal with the present time sequences. maybe they really were just researching? wagner moura playing the older version of his own son took me out tho lol. he was really good at it, which is a testament to his prowess as an actor. kinda bummed out that armando was revealed to have been murdered, possibly the same day as his last appearance in the movie coz he seems to be wearing the same shirt. that scene in the park where people are just openly having sex and threesomes was crazy lol. this was my first time seeing wagner moura in a live-action project—he is a FINEEE man. he was phenomenal as Death in the Puss in Boots sequel, which was primarily what made me look forward to seeing his performance in this. i could not shake the likeness he has to pedro pascal from my mind though. it's like a natalie portman-keira knightley situation. the movie was good, i don't really have any complaints; twas just not my cup of tea.

📖 ~ The Golden Enclaves

rating: 0.75/5

finishing this series feels like tying this trilogy up with rope and shooting it in the back of its head executioner-style. no more exposition, never-ending internal monologues, and a barebones plot. i like el but man, her narration is fuckin EXHAUSTING. this book wasn't even THAT bad but i rated it the lowest out of sheer spite. this book is the embodiment of "go girl give us nothing". for some reason el becomes an on-call enclave savior and it's revealed that no, she was not destined to become a dark lord haha that was js something her grandma made up to reverse psychology her granddaughter into being GOOD. hoe. if i was el i'd beat my bitchass grandma up for making my mom and i's lives hell. el was right to be mad at ophelia coz she's a piece of shit for frankensteining her own son, but she also should've been just as mad at deepthi. this book reads like bad fanfic of what some dim reader thought the finale would've been like. it's giving first draft (derogatory). orion was completely sidelined in the narrative, his screentime was atrocious in this book. he was BARELY there. i was starved for orion and el because they are literally the best fkin thing about this trilogy but they're not even the main part of it. the first one-star gr review of this book i found was right, el and orion are so far on the backburner of this narrative that they don't even break top 3. was the reveal of him being an evolved mawmouth cool? yes. but after that everything was so ass. i couldn't care less about el's world tour hunting mawmouths. we literally lost the plot with this one gang. this book exists on a completely different ballpark from the first two installments, in that it's infinitely Worse™. anyways, i'm finally free of this abomination of a series. insert reaction image of man breaking out of his shackles.

🎬 ~ In The Mood For Love

rating: 9/10

i forgive some of the shoddy editing coz it was just the product of its time. Wong Kar-Wai. man. you just get it, don't you? the intimacy of proximity, the touching but not quite—ugh. they're such good characters. ofc, this film is artsy, so my dumb ass sometimes took a second to connect the dots and context, BUT IT WAS OKAYY. idk why my girl ended up being late to meet him so that they could go to singapore together. it's tragic. it's the type of thing u keep looking back to. idk if she divorced her husband fr or not. i found it so interesting that we never saw the faces of their spouses; it concentrates the focus on the main two characters and i love that choice. this movie is just INTIMACY OF SMALL THINGS MAN. THE WAY SHE MAKES HIM SESAME SOUP WHEN HE'S SICK (even tho she rarely ever cooks for herself), HIM RUNNING OFF TO GET AN UMBRELLA FOR HER AND THEN STAYING TO KEEP HER COMPANY IN THE RAIN, CLANDESTINELY WRITING A STORY TOGETHER!!??!! aw man they were literally soulmates 😔 right person wrong time? something like that. kudos to the edit someone on instagram made to Coming Down by The Weekend that made me finally watch this movie.
