📺 ~ The Boys (Season 1)

rating: 8.25/10

well shit. idk how much i exactly remember but i'll try my best to communicate my thoughts.

i feel like this show excellently conveys a subversive viewpoint of what could be the good "bad guys" and the bad "good guys". the external opinion in-world would be different as to what we as personal viewers know, and this is probably my first time seeing a concept like this carried out—that too in a well-executed manner. i love how the show absolutely does not hold back in being dark and gritty, which reminds me somehow of this being kind of a more r-rated version of dc (even though you'd argue that dc is already r-rated). the cherry bomb scene lives in my head rent-free coz that is absolutely what i would've done. the characters are complex, compelling, and in homelander's case, downright repulsive. as a superman anti and injustice fan, it is so cool to see an unredeemable psychopath of an overpowered superhero going against more grounded non-powered individuals and how that power dynamic plays out. i'm curious to see how the rest of the seasons play out, especially with the cliffhanger at the end of s1. but best be sure, i'm not picking s2 up anytime soon yikes. good show tho. definitely one of its kind in the current oversaturated superhero media market. also, the cinematography and the score are great.
