🎬 ~ Justice League: The New Frontier

rating: 6/10

it started off so promising but fell off in the third act which was... less than satisfactory. it set up so many things in a good way in the beginning. i was quite taken by how nuanced everything was but then saw obvious glaring faults. the movie was so clearly "YEE AMERICA!" that i just checked out lol. that speech by superman in the third act to unite the soldiers was so generic i could've rolled my eyes—bro just came in and spewed bull and everyone suddenly started cheering. i wish i was joking. i'm disappointed it didn't go the way i wanted it to and failed to maintained that consistency. this movie also brings in some new characters and completely fails to at least acknowledge who they are (i'm looking at you Mystery Red Suit With A Metal Gun JSA Guy). even green arrow's name is not said. i assume they only thought comic fans would watch this. there were lots of easter eggs, that's for sure. also: the sheer amount of testosterone in the last act bothered me to no end, they were all men. and looking at that made me appreciate how much mainstream and normalised having women in media has become in the past 10 years. the movie is clearly dated, and not in the sense that it is set in the 50s and 60s. sure, there are women w guns, but superman basically brushes aside their reasoning to go "i would rather advocate for the abusers and potential rapists' safety than the women." he gave me the ick. also, bro just got written out in the third act fight and got written in again by a really dumb deus ex machina via aquaman. so yes, a lot of the movie is good, but a lot of it is bad too.
