📖 ~ Writers & Lovers

rating: 5/5

yea...uhh. felt like it fr. i remember coming across this book in early 2020 near the beginning of my book discovery phase and being intrigued by it. and i also remember downloading this book on a whim during the initial days of annual report practice—it was the morning of practice and i was trying to eat breakfast and then z-lib had shut down lol. i was annoyed. let's cut the sap and get to the review.

casey peabody—awful last name, and personality is too ambiguous. idk who she properly is at all aside from an anxious and horny ball of .... anxiousness and depression ig. yk what ok i know a bit of her personality ig. oscar's kids were cute but oscar himself was shite tbh. i mean, not overtly but i got weird uhh how to say this umm dismissive-ish vibes from him. SILAS. i want a silas in my life bro. the one i can be comfortable and free with. lol casey getting so horny she can't walk straight after kissing him was amusing. most of all, what connects me to this book was the writing aspect of it. not the writing itself, but casey's journey as a writer. it's cathartic?? idk but it's just this whirlwind of awful things happening to her and then slowly it all gets better at the end. she's got her happy ending—and i'm proud of her. loved the way boston came alive in this book. it rlly did feel like a whole character by itself. the iris employees, the nice ones at least, felt like a smol family together haha it was nice.

aside from all that, ngl, the initial reading experience was horrible. i was bored a lot of the times because the pace is really really slow. i didn't even know what the book was supposed to be abt coz i went into it blind and halfway thru i had to go back and read the summary to properly get what this book was tryna do and after that i rlly did get a proper idea. slice of life is not my cup of tea but i do appreciate it. i want a physical copy of this book now coz uwu despite the absolutely shite reading experience at the beginning, i seem to have developed a sort of soft spot for this book. it's not for everyone, but i appreciate it.
