it was a LONGG movie, and felt like i'd already seen this plot in Cars. i mean, the direction and production was top notch, especially the whip camera movements during the races, but it felt too... eh. why brad pitt? why could we not have gotten literally any other actor. javier bardem was cool tho, i liked him. but these race movies—they're all so repetitive: you KNOW there's going to be a car crash scene that's going to be the lowest point in the movie and then suddenly someone gives a pep-talk and now we're back in action for one last thing and bam! we won the cup. one thing i did like tho was the final scene where sonny genuinely reaches flow state (lol) and everything goes silent as he reaches the finish line. that was crazy good. damson idris was charismatic asf in this. wanna watch him play a vampire lowkey. anyways, wish they kept simone ashley in this movie and made her damson idris' love interest because that would've given a parellel love story to sonny and the mechanics' but nope, hollywood production hates south asian women being perceived as desirable without fetishizing it.
