🎬 ~ Rental Family

rating: 7/10

stop this was so nice. i haven't watched a movie with a soul in so long. the story felt ALIVE. it's so found-family core. i love the bonds that philip develops with everyone. if there was a rental family service i might hire someone to pose as my mother lol (except my mother would actually like me and be proud of me). MIA WAS SUCH A CUTIE. philip was such a good father to her i hope he stays in her life and she can have him as her paternal figure for life. AND THE WAY KIKUO ESSENTIALLY BECOMES A FATHER FIGURE TO PHILIP!! AHHHHH. just the idea of philip finding meaningful bonds through these "for-hire" relationships is so precious. aiko was a girlboss and tada, oh lawd tada. his pretend family was so sad. i'm glad he comes through in the end. THAT SCENE WHERE AIKO AND HER COWORKER POSE AS LAWYERS TO TALK TO KIKUO AND GET SO FREAKED OUT AT A DETECTIVE FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSTING THEM ONLY FOR THE DETECTIVE TO BE TADA WAS SO FUNNY. IT WAS LITERALLY THAT ONE VANYA AND FIVE CAR MEME FROM UMBRELLA ACADEMY LOLLLL. n e ways seeing tokyo in this movie was cool. my only experience of japan has been through anime so it's kinda cool to see that the environments they create in animation are like, REAL. me liked it very much.
