("i think it's really important to listen to black voices." *ignores the only two black voices in the room*) this is genuinely the funniest satire i've seen in ages. it perfectly conveys what it's trying to say without being overly vague or spoon-feeding. it's absolutely hilarious (should've seen the way i was CACKLING in so many scenes), and most of all, it's a good movie. there's some really great quotes from this movie but unfortunately i don't remember them rn so yea this will have to do. i liked that it shed light on people of colour internalising an inferiority complex to some extent and how it comes out and is projected in their daily lives and opinions. to completely expose myself here, i was fully on monk's side of the argument until issa rae dropped that bomb and honestly, yeah. i've observed that euro-centric/white problem in myself and while idk if it's born out of cultural alienation or a desire to know something i previously didn't have access to, or just plain internalised westernised bias, this movie unpacks that side to the story in a well-handled manner. that's the review. twas a good movie, but i do feel like the ending fumbled, just a teensy tinsy bit.
