📖 ~ A Reaper at the Gates

rating: 3.75/5

i went from liking helene to hating her again at the end of the book. talk about character regression. harper and helene's kiss felt... not right. that was very bad resolution to two books worth of tension—it felt cheap. also, helene keeps making bad decisions and common sense eludes her at every point??? honestly i love her but damn she needs to stop getting bested by everyone. and harper is basically plot armour because without him helene would be dead ten times over. onto why this book was insufferable: it. is. so. slow. the pacing was very yikes. more than half the book is buildup and info for the last 60 pages tbh. it took me 10 days to finish this (5 technically). i did not remember half the details from the previous two books which made it sort of harder to connect dots and increased my migraine. man i really want to see how the finale goes. keris veturia is such an enigmatic antagonist. i'm very curious to see what her story is (esp coz there is a chapter from her pov in the last book). elias my dear beloved boy was going through it. he can never catch a break (that one chapter with elias and laia is gonna live rent free in my mind hehehehe). dex is also done with everything. he needs rest. (i suspected ages ago that cook was laia's mother i'm proud of myself) well anyways, that's the review.
