ever watched a movie that you know, in your bones, is gonna be a ten? this was that. never has a movie measured up to exactly what i expected of it—that is a FEAT. my obsession w this was justified. i just wish that i could've experienced this film in a theatre. the music was precisely what i thought it would be like too. the visuals, the cinematography, AND GOODNESS THAT CAMERAWORK AND PERSPECTIVE SHIFTS IN THE LAST SCENE?? chef's kiss, GORGEOUS. zendaya is the antagonist of this movie lol (edit 2025: i... disagree. sorta). i kinda expected it on a subconscious level but still, she's a narcissist who lives vicariously through art coz she's lost her own ability to play, and ohmygod—ART DONALDSON. he's just like his name. mike faist is such a beautiful man. i am obsessed w him. i knew the least abt patrick going into this but the way the last scene proves that he cares more abt art than tennis by catching him, juxtaposing the way tashi cared more abt tennis than art ugh. the homoerotic tension was so good bro, like it was just the right amount. so many scenes felt so sensual and yet something like friends actually would do and i love that. my thoughts watching that three-way scene were "please accept a fourth i'm also 18". more unexpected things included zendaya's sheer bra, some rando's dixx out in a bathroom scene, and that knee injury scene made me physically flinch like OW. also the signature serve thing as a sign that pat and tashi fuxxed coming back in the climax AHHHH. i loved that sm. "for a few seconds there, we were in love" goes for that final rally too coz man they looked so happy. churro scene being the peach scene's sibling is so real coz the TENSION. damn it, i love this movie. it's perfect, and encapsulates summer so well. good job, luca.
