dare i say... booktok bait... i hate the aestheticisation of stories. this movie had a little substance until it didn't. it's like having all the right ingredients and still making a horrible pie, but in this case, they switched out the ingredients for worse substitutes. i think this movie could not decide what it wanted to be. american girl falls in love with british boy? ok, cool. in oxford? hmm yummy intellectual banter we get it. enemies to lovers? uhhh not quite more like dislike for two seconds to having consensual sex. but. american girl takes an year off to go to oxford and falls in love with her british TA who also has cancer and is dying and btw they were briefly fwb before they got attached to each other WTF IS THAT PREMISE EVEN??? WHO GREENLIGHTS THIS SHIT. only bonus points are coz the cinematography looked nice. also charlie the gay friend was low-key funny like that while Bar™ monologue in the classroom was so good lol.
